DRUG supply chain is suffering from lack of transparency which results in lack of safety of the medicines and efficiency.
Barcode and QRcodes have no read/write capabilities; they do not contain any added information such as expiry date etc. They only contain the manufacturer and product. They are very labour intensive; as they must be scanned one by one. because they are line of sight. However they are using some advantages like: Barcode are universally accepted technology, and they don't need complicated technology to be read.
RFID tags can be scanned through surfaces and multiple assets can be scanned at once. It will not eliminate barcode and can be used as a complementary technology. Cost is one of the main obstacles to RFID. It costs from 30 cents for passive RFID with range less than 5 m to 30 dollars for 100 m ranges. If one uses active or semi-passive RFID, he can scan humidity and temperature as well. However the cost will increase and durability of the system will reduce drastically.
Near-field communication is a set of communication protocols that enables communication between two electronic devices over a distance of 4 cm or less. Very short range, and lack of security like eavesdropping and data corruption and manipulation are serious issues.
Instant inventory monitoring, asset management and product authentication and real time monitoring of drugs over the supply chain is the solution.
Sisensys is on a mission to improve Safety in the supply chain of medicine. To make it happen, we believe the track chain of custody, localization and instant monitoring of the condition of medicine are the solution. This will improve visibility and transparency, optimize management, enable anti-fraud and anti-diversion and automatic recall.
